My life lacks adventure right now. Adventure and romance. I have this urge to sit in the woods all night and look at stuff, such as the sky, or to go explore something. Get in the car and drive around looking for neat stuff, or walk through the city. Have a romantic date with my wife or draw some pictures of her or see a stupid action movie with my kid before she leaves for half a year in France. Meet someone new and interesting. See a concert. Have an intelligent conversation. You know, adventure.

a romantic date with wife sounds easy enough, eh? you know her number and everything.
Posted by: j-a at January 5, 2005 01:08 PMYeah, but what if she says 'no'? I'll be crushed.
Posted by: mig at January 5, 2005 01:48 PMThat's easy, Mig - there once was a guy who desperately wanted to go out with me. He was circling around the question, going "I would like to ask you s.th." I just said: "The answer is no. Now pose the right question." Good luck. (He messed it up in his first try, but the date was hot.)
Posted by: novala at January 5, 2005 04:49 PMYes, check on all, including Shaolin Soccer, which I saw at the DVD place last night. Will rent it next time. Have fun in Spokane. (I never thought I'd say that to someone and mean it.)
Posted by: mig at January 6, 2005 09:56 AMI know EXACTLY what you mean. We don't just get older, we wake up sleepier to our true selves.
Posted by: This Is Not A Love Story at January 6, 2005 07:20 PMI have a similar longing—but it's a secret, because I'm afraid if I mention it someone will say 'yeah, good luck with that.'
Posted by: jilbur at January 7, 2005 03:11 AMYeah, good luck with that, Jillbur.
TINALS: yes, well, but if we work at it, we can wake up to our true selves as well. Theoretically.
Driving somewhere with my wife yesterday, I turned down this little road I'd always wondered what lay down; actually, I knew already, I just hadn't been there to look at it in a long time - a small group of wine cellars, their roofs just visible over a hill from the road. It was nice to see them, but not as nice as I had hoped. They actually looked a little shabbier and more disappointing than I'd remembered. Then, driving away we drove down another little road my wife was curious about, and up a hill, for a panoramic view of our area neither of us had seen before, with sunset and rain clouds all along the horizon, moving closer.
Now I have to wash my car, because roads less traveled turn out to be really muddy.
Posted by: mig at January 7, 2005 06:48 AM"roads less traveled turn out to be really muddy" seems like a perfect metaphor for life in general...
