Currently learning
This is as much for myself as anyone else, so one day I can look back and have a small chuckle at my expense, or something.
- J-B. Bréval, 1st Concerto in Fa major, whatever that is. This is the most recent piece I've started trying to learn. I asked my cello teacher for something other than the stuff we're doing in orchestra. It was very hard when I started, but is getting better. My teacher loaned me a 3-speed CD with piano accompaniment to practice with at home, so far I have not had the opportunity to try that out.
- Grieg, Op. 56 No. 3 III. Huldigungsmarsch, which would be, in English, what? March of Praise or something. March of Obesiance, according to my online dictionary. I found this quite hard, but am also making some progress, more slowly than I would like. This is one of the orchestra pieces.
- Mozart, Overture to the opera "Der Schauspieldirektor". Typical Mozart. The cello part is not too hard, just fast. One or two spots I still can't play even slowly, the rest is okay.
- Vivaldi, Concerto grosso I, op. 3 No. 8. I like this a lot. When we play it in the orchestra it's like sitting inside an automobile commercial.
- Händel, Organ concert No. 6. Not too hard. My daughter and another woman are playing the harp solo in this one in the orchestra, so it's more meaningful for me. Kind of a boring cello part, which I suppose is good in a way.
- Brahms, Two Hungarian Dances arranged for orchestra by A. Parlow, I. Typical Brahms. Fun to play and not too hard. That's it for the orchestra stuff this year.
- Jean Leclerc, the mystery piece. The first part I know by heart now, the second part I am trying to learn. Tried playing this with another cellist from the orchestra. One of us was having intonation problems, not sure which of us it was.
- Oh, wait, one more orchestra piece. Lehár. Gold and Silver, waltzes. I hate these for some reason.

Is this the famous Guanaco Leclerc mystery piece? If so, it's really getting around. Maybe we should make it the blogging cellists' theme song - I need to get a copy somewhere.
Did you memorize it just by practicing it over and over? I surely envy people who can do that.
Actually, the Leclerc piece started with Pink Puffy Slippers. I've just talked about it so much since I can actually play it and enjoy how it sounds.
My teacher and I have played it several times. I don't have the second part memorized either. Combined, it sounds somewhat different than I had gotten used to...
I'm still chasing the LeClerc connection - who was he? what else did he write? etc.
This arrangement apparently came from a collection of cello duets published by EDITIO MUSICA BUDAPEST.
(GTGP, I just sent you a copy.)
Yes, it's the Guanaco/PinkPuffySlipper Leclerc.
