Chestnuts

There is a big chestnut tree outside my office window. The leaves look sick. Maybe it's infested by that moth that's been killing them off. The sky is blue and the air is crisp. A breeze just blew through and all the chestnuts rumbled to the ground. Then everything was still again.

When you say "all" do you mean every single one? Just wondering.

When I say "all", I want readers to imagine all the chestnuts falling off a tree at once. In fact, roughly half fell off, I suppose. Some were still on the tree when I looked this morning.

But once, one evening when I lived in the Kiba neighborhood of Tokyo, all the streetlights turned on at the same time when I looked out the window. Or, rather, flickered on in rapid succession, moving down the street like a river of lights turning on or something. In that case, it really did involve all the lights. Which I suppose is logical.

Also, the thing with the chestnuts happened yesterday and not today, but I didn't have time to write about it until today.

Thanks. I think I got it now.
